Our Work is "For the One" - We Are All "The Ones"

Our friend Rick recently shared a prayer request that beautifully captures the heart of "For the One." His words reflected the simple, sacred power of connection--the very foundation of The Human Impact's work.
We believe deeply in the power of connection. It's why our work is rooted in friendship and presence. But the power of connection has to be fueled by small steps along the way--the first one requiring us to see and interact with another person.
When Rick prayed during our Community Prayer time, which weekly precedes Thursday Streets time with friends, staff, and volunteers, he said:
"My prayer is that when we're out walking the streets today, each one of us would come across at least one person, and let them know that they're cared for, and that they're always welcome here."
A small gesture. A smile. A word of welcome. That's how friendship begins. And as friendship grows, something even more beautiful takes shape--a community.
At THI, that community is made up of all "the ones." Not only the friends God leads us to on the streets, but every person who joins in this work--staff, volunteers, donors, and supporters alike. Because when God calls us toward the "least of these," His plan is never one-sided. He knows what our friends need, and He equips us to walk alongside them. But He also knows what we need--what our own hearts, souls, and minds are longing for. And if we open ourselves up to what is possible through God, we will see that our friends can be uniquely and beautifully equipped to bless us in ways we might not be able to imagine.
Our friends experiencing homelessness show up with remarkable authenticity--without pretense, willing to name their brokenness and their dependence on God. Their courage and vulnerability invite us to do the same, opening our hearts to recognize our own brokenness and need for healing and grace.
Through these friendships that bridge ages, races, and cultures, God draws us together. We begin to see that we are all "the ones" God loves--each of us being led, side by side, on a shared journey toward healing. Healing that only flourishes when we are in community with God and with one another. As Rick reflected in his prayer and as we continue to pray for all who are a part of this community--may we always be looking out for one another, welcoming each other and reminding one another that our healing journeys are meant to be walked together, never alone.
