Being Over Doing...

In this work and on the streets, we prioritize being over doing because we’ve learned that most often, the greatest gift we can offer is simply our presence. But it’s challenging—sitting with someone in their pain, without fixing, solving, or filling the silence, can feel uncomfortable. We start to question whether being is enough.
Thoughts creep in: Shouldn’t I be doing more? Am I really helping? What if I’m not enough? But God gently reminds us that presence itself is powerful.
Jesus often modeled this. He sat with the brokenhearted, ate meals with those others overlooked, and lingered in places where most people walked away. His presence spoke worth long before His words or actions did.
When we offer our presence, we echo the heart of God—the One who promises to be with us. In a world that values doing, presence says: You matter. You’re not alone.
Being may feel small. But it allows for less of us and more of him. It reminds us we’re not the ones in control. It allows us to make space for God to work through us. In God’s kingdom, being is everything.
